Here’s a playlist of some Wilco covers:
Wilco has always been one of my favorite bands.
Every Wilco fan has a favorite “era” of their music, and mine is the Mermaid Avenue era.
To some, this doesn’t even count as a Wilco era. They were hired as a backing band for Billy Bragg, the words were all penned by Woody Guthrie, and the disfunction of the sessions was well documented in Man in the Sand.
All of that said, Mermaid Avenue Volume 1 is my favorite Wilco album. I love the sound, I love the songs, and whatever tension there was in the sessions manifested itself in a beautiful collection of songs.
In my own bands, California Stars has been a go-to country rock cover that felt at home in any setlist. But Hesitating Beauty was a song I always loved playing solo on my acoustic guitar that for some reason never had the right feel to fit into any of our sets.
But when I was playing with bluegrass pickers, Hesitating Beauty fit like a glove. As such, I recorded a version for my EP of bluegrass cover songs.
The Wilco covers playlist here pairs some other cover songs I’m fond of with the original version.
Enjoy.
